NCERT has launched a new 6-week Bridge Programme for the subject ‘The World Around Us’ for Grade 5 students under the new NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023. This subject replaces the old EVS (Environmental Studies) and blends science, social awareness, geography, soft skills, and real-life learning into one experiential module.

📚 What Is ‘The World Around Us’ Bridge Programme?
This programme helps students transition from the older EVS curriculum to the new integrated subject. It focuses on inquiry-based, project-based, and competency-driven learning.
🎯 Objectives:
- Prepare students for the new Grade 5 curriculum
- Foster scientific thinking, environmental awareness, and collaboration
- Promote critical thinking and creativity through practical projects
- Introduce mapping, landforms, healthy living, culture, sky observation, and soft skills

✅ Week 1: Things Around Us
- Floating and sinking, toy spinners, recycled paper
- 5 Rs of waste management: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle
- Hands-on experiments and observations
✅ Week 2: Exploring the Sky
- Sun and shadows, moon phases, day/night sky
- Culture & festivals related to celestial bodies
- 15-day moon journal and sky watching
✅ Week 3: Different Landforms
- Mountains, deserts, coasts, plains
- Impact on food, festivals, and lifestyle
- Role-plays, picture reading, disaster preparation
✅ Week 4: Healthy Living Habits
- Food diversity, balanced diet, food tracking
- Hygiene, physical activity, gratitude for food
- Poster-making and role-plays: farm to table
✅ Week 5: Mapping
- Directions (N/E/S/W), symbols, sketching local maps
- School treasure hunt, reading floor plans
- Story-based map learning & navigation skills
✅ Week 6: Creativity, Collaboration & Communication
- Design and test games with classmates
- Create rule cards, advertisements, and jingle writing
- Host a carnival and reflect on outdoor vs digital games
